For those who are not familiar with
UNICEF, it stands for United Nations Children's Fund.
It was created by the UN General Assembly on 12/11/46 to provide food and medical care to children in countries hard hit by the devastation of WWII. In 1953, this organization became a permanent part of the UN System. Its original name was United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund from which it has kept the present acronym. It is based out of NYC and provides long-term care and assistance to children and their mothers in developing countries.
In 1965, UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The organization was given the Prince of Asturias Award of Concord in 2006.
